“Tell Me” is the lead single from Melanie B’s debut album Hot, released on September 25, 2000. Debuted and peaked at #4, selling 107,317 copies, making it the 158th best seller of the year.

Background:

“Tell Me” is a song about Melanie’s former husband Jimmy Gulzar. The song attacks Jimmy and accuses him of only liking Melanie for her money. The former Spice Girls backup dancer respond that was an honor that she wrote a song about him.

The song premiered on August 3, 2000 on London’s 95.8 Capital FM.

Music Video:

The music video for “Tell Me” was directed by Nigel Dick and shot on 10 and 11 July 2000. It starts with Brown putting a disc into a CD player. As the music starts she walks down an alley where a crowd gathers and they all perform a synchronized dance as the chorus starts. As the video progresses, it shows Melanie in many different settings, and as the song starts to fade she is seen sitting where the first dance took place staring off-camera.

The video premiered on August 12, 2000.
