Ride It

“Ride It” is a song from Geri Halliwell from her third studio album

Lyrics:

I’ll keep riding it
I’ll keep riding it

Wanna make some music to take me in and out of my head
Get into my grooving, tie him with my body instead

Your the dj i’m the song
Take me out and turn me on
Let yourself go…..!
I’ll be riding it!
She’ll be bumping to the beat
From the sound of the underneath
And my bodies were this parts at!
I’ll be riding it!
When your spinning i’ll be riding it

Hes a lil rude and nasty, his temper is an overload
He gets jiggy all within, all I wanna do it go

And when the base kicks in, I can dance like no ones watching me
Its a funny kinda feeling, cos your the only one
Who can bump it loud the way i like it!!

Your the DJ i’m the song
Take me out and turn me on
Let yourself go…!
I’ll be riding it!
She’ll be bumping to the beat
From the sound of the underneath
And my bodies were this party’s at
I’ll be riding it!
When your spinning it, I’ll be riding it
When your spinning it, I’ll be riding it

And when the base kicks in, I can dance like no ones watching
Its a funny kinda feeling, cos your the only one who can bump the way i like it!!!

Your the DJ i’m the song
Take me out and turn me on
Let yourself go..!
I’ll be riding it
She’ll be bumping to the beat
From the sound of the underneath
And my bodies were this parts at
I’ll be riding it!

Your the DJ i’m the song
Take me out and turn me on
Let yourself go…!
I’ll be riding it!
She’ll be bumping to the beat
From the sound of the underneath
And my bodies were this parts at
I’ll be riding it!

Your the DJ i’m the song
Take me out and turn me on
Let yourself go…!
I’ll be riding it!
She’ll be bumping to the beat
From the sound of the underneath
And my bodies were this parts at
I’ll be riding it!
When your spinning it, I’ll be riding it
When your spinning it, I’ll be riding it
When your spinning it, I’ll be riding it

I’ll be riding it!!!!

Single & Chart:
Rideit-ukcd1“Ride It” was the lead single from Geri Halliwell’s third studio album, Passion. It was released on 22 November 2004 by Innocent Records.

Strong competition from Girls Aloud (I’ll Stand By You”), Destiny’s Child (“Lose My breath”), and Lemar (“If There’s Any Justice”) resulted in a final chart position of number four in the UK Singles Chart, from a midweek position of number two, with 19,196 copies sold in its first week. “Ride It” went on to sell 55,142 copies and became the 143rd best selling single of 2004.

“Ride It” was commercially successful in the rest of Europe. It peaked at number two in Russia, number four in UK, reaching number three on the Belgium, Spain and Scotland Charts. Was the last Top 5 Geri’s single in the UK.

Background:

Between 2001 and 2004, Geri Halliwell wrote many songs for her third album project. Initially, the album was going to be called Disco Sister, focused on  electropop, EDM and Europop sounds. Before the record label changed the concept of the album, many songs was scrapped, replacing some of the dance songs with ballads, jazz-pop, and electro-pop songs.

“Ride It” was one of the first songs written for the third studio album. Has a jazz similar intro and the rest of the song is very disco and electro-pop. The lyrics has a double meaning about pop culture and sex.

Promotion:

To promote the single, Geri performed the song on Children in Need, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Top of the Pops, CD:UK, GMTV, Ministry of Mayhem and This Morning. The first performance was on ASDA’s Tickled Pink: Girls Night In’ charity concert, on 19 September 2004, two months before the single release.

Music Video:

The accompanying music video for the song was directed by Luca Tommassini and shot in Milan in September 2004. In it, Halliwell dresses as a policegirl and spanks a male model with a truncheon before flashing her bra. She also sticks the truncheon between the man’s legs. There is also a close-up of lifting her pink dress and shaking her bottom.

TV executives were worried the video would be too sexual for Top of the Pops Saturday viewers, which was watched by six to 12 year olds. The BBC then censored the video, saying: “TOTP Saturday will air Geri’s video without a couple of unsuitable shots”. Music executive Simon Cowell also criticized the single’s music video on ITV’s CD:UK saying, “If I was her record label and that video arrived on my desk I would throw it in the bin”. In response, Halliwell wrote to Cowell demanding an explanation for his outburst as well as an apology.
