On October 2016, Melanie C released her seventh studio album, Version Of Me, becoming her highest charting album since 2005’s Beautiful Intentions debuting at #25. It was released in Brazil in 2017, when, after an extensive promotional tour the album achieved the #1 position.

On Abril 9, 2019, Melanie C announced her partnership Global Pride Tour along with Sink the Pink, with initial nine dates, was added eight more. It was the first time Melanie introduced the festival, along with five drag queens that dressed up like the Spice Girls. During the concerts, Melanie sung her fan favorites solo and Spice Girls hits, and three new songs, “Pride (Deeper Love)” (Clivillés & Cole cover), “Blind” (Hercules and Love Affair cover), and the previously unreleased “High Heels”. The single for “High Heels” was later released on November 6, 2019, two months later the the tour closing. In May, Melanie embarked in the second reunion tour with the Spice Girls. She started to work in the album short time earlier. The tour was the main inspiration for the album theme. She said quote: “I wanted to do a dance record, that people wanted to listened to, I wanted to be empowering, I wanted to be fun. I think being Sporty Spice again just made me feel very reflective. I wanted to celebrate everything I’ve done in my carrear so far.”

On November 27, 2019, for a interview for The Guardian, Melanie showed demos from new songs, to be released in 2020, that talks about issues with self-acceptance and self-empowerment. She worked with left-field pop artists such as Shura, Rae Morris and Little Boots, with a disco-tinged synth-pop songs that recalls classic Robyn and the carefree joy of Carly Rae Jepsen.

The first single from the album, “Who I Am”, was released on 19 March 2020 and peaked #6 in the first day in the UK. The second single, “Blame It On Me” was released 27 May 2020, and peak #13 in the first day in the UK. The third single, was released on 29 July 2020.
