“Anna Wintour” is a single from american singer and rapper Azelea Banks, released on April 6th 2018 from her album Fantasea II: The Second Wave. Originally, the song was meant to be a duet with Mel B.
Background:
The song is named after Anna Wintour, who is the editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine, and is about self empowerment. Originally, the song was meant to be released in March 2018 featuring Mel B, after the singer hear the song and to be inspired by Scary Spice. She said on a Billboard Magazine interview, quote: “When I was writing the song, my choreographer Matthew Pasterisa was at home with me, and I kinda was using him as a soundboard. I was like, “Matt, what do you think about this?” And he was like, “Oh, yeah. That sounds cool. That sounds kinda like Scary Spice.” Then he goes, “You should just get Scary Spice on the song.” And I’m like, “Whoa, that’s an insane idea.”
She announced that Mel B agreed to record the duet on a Instagram post, on February 3rd with a snippet video. After anticipating the release for Mel B, she revelead on February 24th on her Facebook account, that unfortunately Mel B couldn’t be available to perform the song, due schedules problems (being a mom, America’s Got Talent, and Balafonte’s divorce). Azelea thanked Mel B for considered to be part of the song and re-singed the parts she wroted for her and released the song as a no-feature song.
